This position involves guiding students with severe behavioral challenges across multiple subjects, providing individualized instruction, and fostering a supportive space for growth and learning.
Key Qualifications:
- Valid Special Education Teacher certification for grades K-12
- Experience with self-contained, multi-age, and severe/behavioral classrooms preferred
- Confidence working with students ages 5–22, adapting materials to meet varied developmental levels
- Versatility in teaching several academic subjects
- Strong classroom management and de-escalation skills
- Collaborative mindset with support staff and families
Responsibilities:
- Lead instruction across core academic content for groups up to 9 students per class
- Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) tailored to each student's needs
- Establish a positive and structured classroom environment, modeling and reinforcing appropriate behaviors
- Adapt curriculum and teaching techniques for diverse learning styles and abilities
- Communicate regularly with families and interdisciplinary teams regarding student progress and strategies
- Maintain thorough documentation of student progress and behavioral interventions
- Participate in ongoing professional development and training sessions
