Bring your expertise and passion for supporting students with Autism Spectrum Disorder to a rewarding role in an elementary self-contained classroom. As a Special Education Teacher in a dynamic elementary setting near Woodford, VA, you’ll provide personalized instruction and behavioral support to students with diverse needs, empowering them to reach their fullest potential in a structured, nurturing environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement individualized education programs (IEPs) tailored to each student’s strengths and areas for growth.
  • Deliver direct instruction aligned with Virginia state standards and individual student goals.
  • Use evidence-based instructional strategies specifically designed for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder.
  • Implement positive behavior interventions and supports (PBIS), along with behavior intervention plans (BIPs).
  • Collaborate extensively with speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists, psychologists, behavior specialists, and other related service providers.
  • Supervise and lead paraprofessionals, ensuring a cohesive and supportive classroom team.
  • Collect and analyze student progress data, maintaining accurate special education documentation.
  • Foster important life skills, social communication, independent living strategies, and self-regulation abilities in students.
  • Maintain a safe, structured, and welcoming classroom environment catering to diverse learning and sensory needs.

Desired Experience and Qualifications:

  • Active Virginia Special Education Teaching License, or eligibility for licensure.
  • Demonstrated experience creating and implementing IEPs.
  • Strong understanding of special education compliance and documentation.
  • Effective classroom management and behavioral intervention skills.
  • Team-oriented with excellent collaboration and communication abilities.
  • Preferred: Experience teaching students with Autism Spectrum Disorder in self-contained settings.
  • Familiarity with ABA methodologies, structured teaching tools, visual schedules, and functional communication systems is a plus.
  • Crisis prevention/de-escalation training highly valued.
