Special Education Teacher | Woodford, Virginia

Step into a rewarding role supporting elementary-aged students within a specialized autism program. As a Special Education Teacher in a self-contained classroom, you'll be instrumental in nurturing the growth and development of students with Autism Spectrum Disorder, each with unique cognitive, communication, and behavioral needs.

Qualifications:

• Current Virginia Special Education Teaching License, or eligibility to obtain licensure
• Strong experience designing and implementing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
• Proficient in documenting progress and maintaining special education compliance
• Expertise in classroom management and implementing positive behavioral supports
• Skilled at effective collaboration with multidisciplinary teams and families

Preferred Experience:

• Background teaching students with Autism Spectrum Disorder
• Familiarity with self-contained classroom settings
• Understanding of ABA principles, structured teaching strategies, visual schedules, social stories, and functional communication alternatives
• Experience supporting students with more complex cognitive or behavioral needs
• Crisis prevention or de-escalation training is highly desirable

Responsibilities:

• Create and deliver instruction tailored to individual student goals, guided by evidence-based strategies for autism
• Develop, review, and update IEPs while ensuring compliance and documentation standards are met
• Implement positive behavioral interventions and support plans
• Foster development of communication, social skills, self-regulation, and life skills
• Collaborate closely with related service providers (such as speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists, and school psychologists)
• Direct and supervise paraprofessionals in the classroom
• Maintain a structured, engaging, and safe classroom environment tailored to students’ needs
