Make a meaningful impact in the lives of elementary students as a Special Education Teacher working in an Intensive Resource Room for the 2025-2026 school year. This contract-to-hire opportunity is perfect for caring, dedicated educators passionate about supporting students with moderate to severe needs. You’ll work with a small group—just six students in grades 1 through 6—each with unique abilities, ranging from Down syndrome to non-verbal autism utilizing AAC devices for communication. Paraprofessional support is available to assist with routines and self-care, while a collaborative team of related service providers (OT, SLP, SSW) offers both push-in and pull-out services.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Active Special Education teaching certification (or eligibility) for elementary-level students
- Experience supporting students with moderate to severe disabilities, including Down syndrome and non-verbal autism
- Proficiency or willingness to learn about AAC devices and assistive communication technologies
- Strong collaboration skills to work effectively with paraprofessionals and service providers
- Ability to create a nurturing, structured, and inclusive classroom environment
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement individualized educational plans (IEPs) tailored to diverse needs
- Foster communication and learning through adapted curriculum and AAC device support
- Differentiate instruction and modify materials to promote student engagement
- Guide, supervise, and support paraprofessionals in classroom routines and self-care
- Communicate regularly with families, service providers, and school staff
- Monitor and maintain documentation regarding student progress and IEP goals
