Qualifications & Desired Experience:

  • Valid Michigan Special Education teaching certificate—CI (Cognitive Impairment) or ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder) endorsement required
  • Demonstrated experience working with middle school students with special needs
  • Ability to develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) that align with student goals
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills with students, families, and staff
  • Commitment to fostering a supportive, inclusive classroom environment
  • Flexibility, resourcefulness, and a passion for promoting student success

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide specialized instruction tailored to meet the needs of students in grades 6–8
  • Develop, implement, and review IEPs, ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations
  • Create a positive, structured, and engaging learning atmosphere
  • Monitor, assess, and track student progress toward academic and behavioral goals
  • Collaborate closely with general education teachers, paraprofessionals, and related service providers
  • Maintain open, effective communication with families regarding student achievements and needs
  • Participate in professional development opportunities and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement
