This position involves working as a Teacher of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing in a school setting, providing specialized educational support to students with hearing impairments. The role requires expertise in developing and implementing individualized education plans (IEPs), using assistive technology, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to create an inclusive learning environment. Located in Alexandria, VA, this contract position offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on students’ academic and social development.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and deliver instructional programs tailored to students who are deaf or hard of hearing
  • Assess students’ communication needs and progress regularly
  • Collaborate with speech therapists, audiologists, and general education teachers
  • Utilize assistive listening devices and technology effectively in the classroom
  • Provide counseling and support to students and families regarding hearing impairment
  • Participate in ongoing professional development and maintain licensure requirements

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certification or licensure as a Teacher of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing
  • Experience working with children and adolescents with hearing loss
  • Strong knowledge of auditory-verbal techniques and American Sign Language (ASL)
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
