What you’ll need to succeed:
- Current certification as a Teacher of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing (or eligibility to obtain)
- Experience working with children with hearing loss in school settings preferred
- Strong knowledge of various communication modalities, including sign language, oral/aural methods, and assistive technology
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills
- Commitment to individualized instruction and student success
- Ability to create engaging, accessible lesson plans and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams
Day-to-day responsibilities include:
- Delivering tailored instruction and academic support to students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing across a variety of age groups
- Collaborating with classroom teachers and special education staff to implement effective accommodations and modifications
- Conducting assessments to monitor student progress, adjusting instructional strategies as needed
- Keeping thorough documentation of student progress and IEP goals
- Supporting students in developing communication, self-advocacy, and social skills
- Facilitating parent-teacher communication and attending IEP meetings
