Qualifications & Desired Background:

  • Valid state licensure or endorsement as a Teacher of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing
  • Previous experience working with Deaf or Hard of Hearing students preferred
  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) strongly desired
  • Ability to adapt lesson plans to individual education plans (IEPs)
  • Strong communication and collaborative skills for working with students, families, and school staff
  • Understanding of assistive technology and amplification devices used in the classroom

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement individualized lesson plans tailored to students’ unique needs
  • Provide direct instruction using appropriate communication methods including spoken language, ASL, or other visual strategies
  • Collaborate with general education staff, speech-language pathologists, and other specialists to ensure student success
  • Support students’ access to the general curriculum through classroom modifications and adaptive materials
  • Monitor, document, and report on student progress and goals
  • Advocate for students’ social, emotional, and academic needs within the school community
  • Offer training and resources to classroom teachers and staff regarding hearing loss and accommodations
