Qualifications & Desired Background:
- Valid state licensure or endorsement as a Teacher of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing
- Previous experience working with Deaf or Hard of Hearing students preferred
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) strongly desired
- Ability to adapt lesson plans to individual education plans (IEPs)
- Strong communication and collaborative skills for working with students, families, and school staff
- Understanding of assistive technology and amplification devices used in the classroom
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement individualized lesson plans tailored to students’ unique needs
- Provide direct instruction using appropriate communication methods including spoken language, ASL, or other visual strategies
- Collaborate with general education staff, speech-language pathologists, and other specialists to ensure student success
- Support students’ access to the general curriculum through classroom modifications and adaptive materials
- Monitor, document, and report on student progress and goals
- Advocate for students’ social, emotional, and academic needs within the school community
- Offer training and resources to classroom teachers and staff regarding hearing loss and accommodations
