Step into a rewarding contract position supporting young learners as a teacher specializing in Deaf and Hard of Hearing education. This full-time, full school year role focuses on first and second graders in a self-contained classroom environment, providing specialized, high-impact instruction aligned with state standards. You'll play a pivotal role in these students’ academic and language development, utilizing your expertise to adapt lessons and foster a fully accessible, supportive learning space.
Key Qualifications:
- Valid Texas teaching certificate with Deaf and Hard of Hearing (EC-12) certification, or eligibility to obtain before starting
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
- Demonstrated skills in American Sign Language and/or listening and spoken language methodologies
- Solid understanding of language acquisition and literacy development for DHH children
- Experience in creating and implementing effective IEPs
- Preferred: Past teaching experience in self-contained DHH classrooms, K–2 literacy instruction, familiarity with RDSPD program models, and bilingual (English/Spanish) abilities
Core Responsibilities:
- Deliver direct instruction in reading, writing, math, and core content areas tailored for DHH students
- Utilize identified communication modalities from each student’s IEP, such as ASL, spoken language, or total communication
- Develop, implement, and monitor individualized education plans in collaboration with multidisciplinary teams
- Prepare and review student progress reports each grading period
- Collaborate with audiologists, speech-language pathologists, interpreters, and other related service providers
- Foster a language-rich, visually accessible classroom with appropriate technology (FM systems, sound field systems, etc.)
- Maintain compliance with state, district, and federal special education laws and attend required trainings
