Teacher of the Deaf in Chattanooga, TN

Qualifications and Desired Experience:

• Valid state certification as a Teacher of the Deaf / Hard of Hearing
• Experience working in an educational setting, preferably with K-12 students
• Strong understanding of deaf culture, language development, and communication modes such as ASL, cued speech, or oral communication
• Ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including general education teachers, speech therapists, and families
• Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
• Passion for advocacy and empowering students with diverse abilities

Responsibilities:

• Provide direct instruction and support to students who are deaf or hard of hearing, both in self-contained and inclusive classroom settings
• Develop and implement Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) in collaboration with school staff and families
• Adapt curriculum, materials, and strategies to accommodate various learning needs and communication preferences
• Facilitate language development, communication skills, and self-advocacy for students
• Offer consultative support to classroom teachers and school personnel to promote accessible learning environments
• Monitor and document student progress, making data-driven recommendations for educational planning
