Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (TDHH) | Chesapeake, Virginia

Qualifications and Experience:

• Valid teaching certification for Deaf / Hard of Hearing (or eligibility to obtain)
• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Deaf Education, Special Education, or a related field
• Strong understanding of auditory/oral, total communication, and American Sign Language (ASL) methodologies
• Experience designing and implementing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
• Ability to provide direct instruction and consultative support to students, staff, and families
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills

Primary Responsibilities:

• Deliver specialized instruction for students with hearing impairments in accordance with IEP goals
• Assess, monitor, and document student progress, adapting lessons as needed
• Serve as a resource for educators and staff, offering expertise in accessibility and instructional modifications
• Foster a supportive, inclusive classroom atmosphere
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including speech-language pathologists, audiologists, and general educators
• Engage with families to support student learning and advocate for appropriate resources
