Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (TDHH) - Decatur, Alabama

Key Qualifications:

• Valid teaching certification in Deaf/Hard of Hearing education
• Experience working with students who are deaf or hard of hearing in a school setting preferred
• Strong skills in developing and adapting lesson plans to accommodate various learning needs
• Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) is highly desirable
• Ability to collaborate with classroom teachers, speech-language pathologists, and families
• Excellent communication and organizational abilities

Primary Responsibilities:

• Provide direct instruction to students with hearing impairments, using individualized educational plans (IEPs)
• Adapt general education curriculum to ensure accessibility and engagement for all students served
• Utilize a variety of communication methods, including sign language and assistive technology
• Conduct assessments to monitor progress and determine students’ needs
• Consult and collaborate with school staff and families to promote an inclusive learning experience
• Attend IEP meetings and contribute to the development and review of student plans
• Maintain detailed records and documentation as needed by the school or district
