Teacher of the Deaf in Decherd, TN

Inspire and support students as a Teacher for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing in a high school setting during the 2026-2027 academic year. This contract opportunity offers a chance to work closely with a single student, ensuring individualized attention and meaningful growth. The position is full-time, operating Monday through Friday, from 7:45 AM to 2:45 PM CST, with a first day of service on August 4, 2026. You’ll provide in-person instruction and collaborate with education team members to create a supportive, engaging learning environment.

Qualifications & Desired Experience:

• Valid teaching certification for Deaf/Hard of Hearing required
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Deaf Education, Special Education, or related field
• Familiarity with high school curriculum and adolescent learning strategies
• Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL); ability to facilitate communication through various modalities
• Previous experience working with Deaf/Hard of Hearing students in a school setting preferred
• Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills

Key Responsibilities:

• Design and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) tailored to the student’s abilities and goals
• Deliver direct, engaging classroom instruction and adapt materials as necessary
• Foster a positive, inclusive classroom atmosphere to encourage academic and social growth
• Collaborate with teachers, staff, and family members to support student development
• Regularly assess progress and adjust strategies for optimal student success
• Serve as an advocate for the student within the educational environment
