Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing in Ellsworth, ME

Key Qualifications:

• Valid state certification or licensure as a Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (or eligibility to obtain)
• Experience working in school-based or pediatric settings preferred
• Strong understanding of auditory equipment, assistive technology, and individualized education plans (IEPs)
• Proficiency with various communication modalities, such as ASL, spoken language, and cued speech
• Excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills
• Ability to adapt lessons and materials to meet individual student needs

Primary Responsibilities:

• Develop and deliver instruction tailored to students who are deaf or hard of hearing, either in self-contained or inclusive classroom settings
• Conduct assessments and contribute to IEP development and implementation
• Support students in building communication, academic, and self-advocacy skills
• Consult with general education teachers and staff to ensure accessibility and facilitate appropriate classroom modifications
• Collaborate regularly with families and other service providers to maximize student growth
• Stay up to date with best practices and participate in ongoing professional development
