Key Qualifications:
- Valid state teaching certification for Deaf/Hard of Hearing or eligibility for certification.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Deaf Education, Special Education, or a related field.
- Solid knowledge of instructional strategies tailored for students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing.
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) required; written and verbal communication skills are essential.
- Experience collaborating with general education teachers, specialists, and families.
- Strong organizational and documentation abilities.
- Previous experience within school settings preferred, but not required.
Core Responsibilities:
- Deliver direct instruction to students with hearing loss, using individualized education plans (IEPs).
- Assess student progress and adapt teaching methods to meet diverse needs.
- Consult and collaborate with general and special education staff, interpreters, and support personnel.
- Facilitate effective communication between students and the broader school community.
- Provide resources, advocacy, and support to families and caregivers.
- Participate in IEP meetings, assessments, and professional development as needed.
- Promote a positive, inclusive environment that fosters student confidence and independence.
