Ideal Candidate:
- Holds valid certification/licensure as a Teacher of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing (or eligibility to obtain)
- Demonstrates experience working with children or adolescents who are deaf or hard of hearing
- Knowledgeable about assistive technology and various modes of communication, including ASL, auditory/oral, cued speech, or total communication
- Comfortable developing and implementing IEPs tailored to students’ unique needs
- Strong collaborative skills, fostering positive relationships with families, school staff, and other service providers
- Flexible, compassionate, and committed to ongoing learning and advocacy
Primary Responsibilities:
- Provide direct instruction and support services to students with hearing loss
- Consult with classroom teachers to adapt curriculum and learning materials
- Monitor and assess student progress, maintaining accurate records and documentation
- Participate in IEP meetings and contribute to goal setting and progress reporting
- Educate school staff and parents on effective communication strategies and accommodations
- Stay current with best practices in deaf education and participate in professional development opportunities
