Make a difference for students with hearing challenges as a Teacher of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing in the greater Fort Wayne, IN area. This contract role allows you to provide vital educational support, ensuring every child receives an accessible, tailored learning experience. You'll collaborate with fellow educators, families, and specialists in a dynamic, rewarding school environment.

What you'll bring:

  • Valid state teaching certification for Deaf/Hard of Hearing education (or eligibility to obtain)
  • Experience working with students who are deaf or hard of hearing, preferably in a school setting
  • Solid understanding of IEP development, implementation, and progress monitoring
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with students, staff, and families
  • Ability to utilize a range of instructional methods, assistive listening devices, and accessible technologies
  • Flexibility, empathy, and creativity in adapting lessons to meet diverse student needs
  • Competence in both spoken and/or sign language (ASL and/or other modes of communication, as appropriate)

Role responsibilities:

  • Deliver individualized and small group instruction for students with hearing impairments
  • Assess student needs and develop student-centered educational plans
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers and related service staff to foster inclusive learning environments
  • Educate and guide families regarding student progress, equipment use, and advocacy
  • Integrate assistive technology and visual resources to maximize communication access
  • Contribute to IEP meetings, providing expertise on accommodations and modifications
  • Maintain accurate documentation and adhere to all state and federal education guidelines
