Deaf and Hard of Hearing Teacher - Hillsboro, Illinois

Step into a rewarding opportunity supporting students as a Teacher of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing for the 2024-2025 school year. This contract role is set to begin in November and extends through the end of the school year, offering flexibility for both part-time and full-time professionals. You’ll provide vital services as an itinerant educator across Bond, Fayette, and Montgomery counties, ensuring students have equitable access to communication, language, and academic growth.

Key qualifications and skills:

• Valid Teacher of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing credential or state certification
• Experience working with students who are deaf or hard of hearing in school-based settings
• Ability to develop and implement IEPs tailored to individual student needs
• Strong collaboration skills to work with general education teachers, families, and support staff
• Proficiency using assistive listening devices and adapting curriculum for students with hearing loss
• Excellent communication skills and a compassionate approach to advocacy

Primary responsibilities:

• Travel between multiple schools to deliver direct instruction, consultation, and support for DHH students
• Monitor student progress toward IEP goals and provide ongoing assessment
• Educate school staff and classmates on best practices for inclusion and accessibility
• Serve as a liaison between families, schools, and outside agencies ensuring holistic support
• Create engaging learning environments to foster language and communication development
• Maintain accurate records and documentation as required
• Adjust instruction and support based on individual student needs and evolving caseloads
