Seeking an experienced educator skilled in supporting students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing to make a difference in a dynamic school environment near Hixson, TN. This full-time contract role begins August 5, 2026, and continues through May 19, 2027. You’ll work approximately 35 hours per week, with placement across campuses in the Chattanooga area depending on district assignment needs. The exact age groups and caseload will be clarified as final numbers are set for the coming year, ensuring you are matched with the students who’ll benefit most from your expertise.
Key Qualifications:
- Valid and active Department of Education teaching certificate (required)
- Experience or credentialing as a Teacher of the Deaf / Hard of Hearing
- Strong understanding of diverse communication modalities and assistive technology
- Ability to collaborate with school teams, families, and service providers
- Must successfully complete fingerprinting and other time-sensitive credentialing requirements
- Experience in a school setting supporting students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing is strongly preferred
Primary Responsibilities:
- Deliver direct instruction and support to students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing
- Adapt curriculum and teaching strategies to meet individualized education plan (IEP) goals
- Participate in IEP meetings and contribute to multi-disciplinary team planning
- Educate fellow staff and work closely with general education teachers to foster inclusion and access
- Monitor student progress and maintain clear, ongoing communication with families
