Qualifications

  • Valid state certification as a Teacher of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing (or eligibility for certification)
  • Strong knowledge of evidence-based instructional strategies for DHH students
  • Ability to develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) or other communication modes as appropriate
  • Experience working with students across a range of grade levels and hearing abilities
  • Effective collaboration skills and the ability to partner with general education staff

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide direct instruction tailored to the unique needs of DHH students
  • Assess students’ strengths and needs to inform instructional planning
  • Create and adapt lesson materials utilizing appropriate communication methods
  • Advocate for accessible learning environments and student accommodations
  • Work closely with families and multidisciplinary teams to support holistic development
  • Offer consultation to staff on best practices and assistive technology for DHH learners
  • Monitor and document student progress, updating goals as needed
