Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Deaf Education or related field
  • Valid teaching certification for Deaf/Hard of Hearing (as required by state standards)
  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and/or other communication modes used by students
  • Experience adapting educational materials and assessments to accommodate varying levels of hearing and language proficiency
  • Strong interpersonal skills for effective communication with students, educators, and parents

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct instruction to students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing, using both individual and group formats
  • Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), ensuring goals align with each student’s abilities and needs
  • Collaborate with general and special education teachers to adjust classroom environments and instructional methods
  • Advocate for students’ access to curriculum, technology, and services that support their learning
  • Offer guidance and resources to families to enhance understanding and support at home
  • Participate in IEP meetings, parent conferences, and professional development activities
