Key Qualifications:
- Current certification as a Teacher of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing (DHH), or eligibility to obtain
- Demonstrated experience working with students who are deaf or hard of hearing in school settings
- Strong understanding of individualized education plans (IEPs) and ability to tailor instruction to meet diverse learning needs
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and familiarity with other communication modalities as required by students
- Excellent communication skills, both in collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and supporting families
- Compassionate, patient, and creative approach to teaching
Core Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement instructional strategies that foster academic, communicative, and social growth for students with hearing impairments
- Collaborate with general education teachers, speech-language pathologists, and other specialists to support student inclusion and progress
- Participate in IEP meetings, assessments, and progress monitoring, ensuring compliance and advocacy for accessible learning opportunities
- Adapt classroom materials, lessons, and assessments to be accessible and engaging for students with varying levels of hearing loss
- Provide direct instruction in both individual and group settings, reinforcing content using appropriate visual, auditory, and tactile supports
- Act as a resource for staff and families on best practices and assistive technologies related to deaf and hard of hearing education
