As a Teacher of the Deaf / Hard of Hearing, you’ll collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and tailor instruction to meet individual needs, ensuring students can access curriculum and thrive.
Key Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Deaf Education or a related field
- Valid teaching certification with a Deaf/Hard of Hearing endorsement (or eligibility)
- Previous experience working with K-12 students who are deaf or hard of hearing preferred
- Strong knowledge of sign language (ASL) and other communication modes
- Ability to develop and implement Individualized Education Plans (IEPs)
- Excellent communication skills for working with students, families, and staff
Primary Responsibilities:
- Provide direct instruction and support to students who are deaf or hard of hearing, adapting resources as needed
- Collaborate with classroom teachers, support personnel, and administration to ensure accessible learning environments
- Participate in IEP meetings and progress monitoring
- Advocate for student needs and foster independence
- Consult with families to facilitate strategies for learning and communication at home
- Stay current with best practices and attend relevant professional development
