Teacher of the Deaf in Lexington Park, MD

Key Responsibilities:

• Deliver direct and indirect instruction to students individually and in groups, adapted for students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing.
• Develop and implement educational plans tailored to meet individual learning needs.
• Assess student skills and progress, documenting growth and adjusting teaching strategies as needed.
• Consult and collaborate with classroom teachers, support staff, and families to foster inclusive learning environments.
• Advocate for accessibility and provide resources or modifications to ensure equal educational opportunities.
• Facilitate the use of assistive technology and interpretive services as required for classroom success.
• Participate in Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings and contribute to developing student goals.

Preferred Qualifications:

• State certification as a Teacher of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing (or eligibility for certification).
• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Deaf Education, Special Education, or related field.
• Experience teaching students with hearing loss in a school setting preferred.
• Proficiency with American Sign Language (ASL) or other communication modalities for Deaf/Hard of Hearing students.
• Strong communication, organization, and advocacy skills.
• Compassion, cultural competence, and a commitment to fostering student growth.
