Deaf and Hard of Hearing Teacher - Metairie, LA

Qualifications & Experience Sought:

• Valid state certification in Deaf/Hard of Hearing education (or eligibility for certification)
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Deaf Education, Special Education, or related field
• Demonstrated ability to develop and implement Individualized Education Plans (IEPs)
• Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) or other communication modalities for Deaf/Hard of Hearing students
• Experience collaborating with parents, multidisciplinary teams, and other educators
• Strong organizational, communication, and advocacy skills
• Familiarity with assistive technologies and resources tailored for hearing-impaired students

Key Responsibilities:

• Deliver direct instruction to Deaf/Hard of Hearing students in accordance with their IEPs
• Adapt curriculum and instructional strategies to support diverse learning needs and communication preferences
• Foster an engaging, inclusive classroom setting that encourages student confidence and independence
• Collaborate with general education staff to promote integration and understanding within the broader school community
• Maintain detailed progress records, provide assessment data, and contribute to regular IEP meetings
• Support the use of hearing aids, cochlear implants, FM systems, and visual learning tools
• Communicate effectively with families regarding student progress and strategies for success
