Qualifications:

  • Certification as a Teacher of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing
  • Experience working with school-aged children with varying degrees of hearing loss
  • Strong understanding of sign language modalities, auditory/oral instruction, and assistive hearing technologies
  • Ability to create and implement Individualized Education Plans (IEPs)
  • Skilled in collaborating across multidisciplinary teams
  • Effective communication and organizational skills
  • Flexibility and problem-solving abilities in adapting lessons as needed

Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct instruction to students who are deaf or hard of hearing, both individually and in group settings
  • Assess student progress and adjust teaching strategies to foster development in language, academics, and social skills
  • Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and families to integrate supports across school settings
  • Monitor and document student progress toward IEP goals
  • Advocate for necessary accommodations and modifications in the classroom
  • Maintain current knowledge of best practices and technologies in deaf education
