What you’ll bring:
- Valid certification as a Teacher of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing (state-specific credentials required)
- Experience with individualized education programs (IEPs) and knowledge of IDEA
- Familiarity with various assistive listening devices and classroom accommodations
- Strong communication skills with students, staff, and families
- Understanding of American Sign Language (ASL) or other communication modalities used with students who are deaf or hard of hearing
- Ability to develop diverse instructional strategies and adapt to varying student needs
- Commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive classroom culture
Core responsibilities:
- Provide direct instruction to students who are deaf or hard of hearing across multiple grade levels
- Develop, implement, and monitor IEPs and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams
- Adapt curriculum materials to students’ communication and learning needs
- Offer consultation and support to classroom teachers and staff for best practices in accessibility
- Facilitate effective communication between students, families, and school personnel
- Conduct assessments and maintain accurate student records
- Participate in professional development and stay current with trends in deaf education
