Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (TDHH) - Norfolk, Virginia

Key Qualifications:

• Valid state teaching certification with appropriate endorsement for Deaf/Hard of Hearing education
• Experience using various communication modalities including ASL, oral, and cued speech
• Strong understanding of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and the ability to develop and implement them effectively
• Proficiency in adapting general curriculum to meet the unique needs of each student
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for collaborating with students, families, and multidisciplinary teams
• Previous experience in school settings preferred

Core Responsibilities:

• Provide direct instruction to students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing in individual and group settings
• Assess student abilities and needs, develop goals, and ensure proper documentation within IEPs
• Work collaboratively with general education teachers and other specialists to support inclusion and access to curriculum
• Serve as an advocate for students, ensuring accommodations and assistive technology are in place as needed
• Offer guidance and resources to families regarding student progress and hearing loss
• Participate in IEP meetings, professional development, and ongoing training
