Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing in Orono, ME

Key Qualifications and Desired Experience:

• Hold appropriate state certification or licensure for teaching Deaf/Hard of Hearing students
• Master’s degree in Deaf Education or related field strongly preferred
• Prior experience supporting Deaf/Hard of Hearing students in school settings preferred
• Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) or Signed English is highly desirable
• Strong collaborative skills and ability to partner with multidisciplinary teams
• Ability to develop and implement individualized education programs (IEPs)

Responsibilities:

• Deliver specialized instruction designed to meet the needs of Deaf/Hard of Hearing students across various age groups
• Assess student abilities and progress, using appropriate tools and methods
• Develop and adapt curriculum and teaching strategies to facilitate comprehension and engagement
• Partner closely with classroom educators, speech-language pathologists, and related service providers
• Act as a resource and advocate for students and families, providing education and support
• Maintain accurate student records and participate in IEP meetings
