Step into a dynamic educational setting supporting students with hearing challenges across multiple grade levels. This contract opportunity begins immediately and extends at least through the end of the school year, with potential for longer-term placement. You’ll work in a collaborative, student-centered environment dedicated to creating accessible, inclusive learning experiences.

Working Monday through Friday, 8 am–4 pm (37.5 hours per week), you’ll provide specialized instruction and support for students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing from kindergarten through grade 12. The caseload typically involves 20-30 student sessions weekly and may require traveling between 2 to 8 nearby school locations, ensuring every student receives the individualized attention they need.

Qualifications:

  • Current NY certification as a Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (required)
  • Experience working with students in grades K–12
  • Knowledge of evidence-based instructional methods for children with hearing loss
  • Strong ability to collaborate with general and special education staff
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Must be willing to travel between assigned school sites

Responsibilities:

  • Deliver direct educational services to Deaf and Hard of Hearing students, adapting lessons to maximize access
  • Conduct student assessments and develop individualized education plans (IEPs)
  • Consult with classroom teachers, related service providers, and families to develop accommodations and modifications
  • Advocate for DHH students and provide support for self-advocacy skills
  • Maintain accurate records of progress, attendance, and compliance documentation
  • Serve as a resource to staff on best practices for inclusive instruction
