Key Qualifications:
- Current certification (or eligibility) as a Teacher of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing
- Experience in educational settings, preferably within schools
- Strong understanding of communication techniques for students with hearing loss
- Ability to create and adapt lesson plans for diverse needs
- Collaborative approach to working with general educators, parents, and specialists
- Organizational skills for effective scheduling and documentation
- Commitment to fostering inclusive, supportive classrooms
Primary Responsibilities:
- Provide direct instruction to students who are deaf or hard of hearing, adapting materials as needed
- Collaborate with classroom teachers to support curriculum modifications
- Conduct assessments and contribute to developing student IEPs
- Offer consultative support to staff and families regarding hearing loss and accommodations
- Attend IEP meetings and contribute professional input
- Advocate for students’ communication access and functional participation
- Maintain accurate records and progress reports in compliance with school and federal requirements
