Make a meaningful impact providing specialized educational support as a Teacher of the Deaf / Hard of Hearing in a dynamic school environment near South Portland, ME. As a valued professional in this contract position, you’ll help students access curriculum and communication using your expertise and dedication to student success.

Key Qualifications and Experience:

  • Certification as a Teacher of the Deaf / Hard of Hearing or eligibility for appropriate state licensure
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Deaf Education or related field
  • In-depth knowledge of best practices for teaching students with hearing loss
  • Experience with American Sign Language (ASL), auditory-verbal strategies, and adaptive technology
  • Effective collaboration skills to work with multidisciplinary teams, students, and families
  • Strong communication, advocacy, and organizational skills

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement individualized educational programs (IEPs) for students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing
  • Provide direct instruction in academic content and communication modalities (oral, sign, cued speech, etc.)
  • Consult with classroom teachers and staff to support instructional modifications and accommodations
  • Foster a positive, inclusive classroom environment conducive to learning and language growth
  • Utilize and troubleshoot assistive listening devices and classroom technologies
  • Track student goals, progress, and provide ongoing feedback to students, families, and educational teams
