Make a difference in the lives of students by providing vital support as a Teacher of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing. This contract opportunity begins as soon as possible and extends through early June 2027, offering a rewarding role based near Trussville, AL, with in-person responsibilities. You’ll collaborate directly with school staff and families to ensure students who are deaf or hard of hearing have the resources, advocacy, and instruction they need to thrive in the classroom.
Qualifications and Desired Experience:
- Valid state licensure and/or endorsement for teaching Deaf/Hard of Hearing students (must be submitted with application)
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Deaf Education or related field
- Familiarity with individualized education plans (IEPs), accommodation development, and progress monitoring
- Experience supporting diverse learners in school settings
- Strong communication skills with students, families, and educators
- American Sign Language proficiency preferred
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver direct instruction and support to students with hearing loss, tailored to individual needs
- Collaborate with classroom teachers to modify curriculum and learning environments for accessibility
- Monitor student progress and participate actively in IEP meetings
- Provide guidance and education to staff and families on assistive technology and strategies for inclusion
- Maintain clear documentation and regular communication regarding student development
- Foster a positive, encouraging classroom environment for optimal student growth
