Make a meaningful difference supporting students as a Teacher of the Deaf / Hard of Hearing in a contract position near Virginia Beach, VA. In this important role, you will collaborate with educators, students, and families to create accessible, engaging learning environments and promote communication access.
Key Qualifications:
- Current or pending state licensure as a Teacher of the Deaf / Hard of Hearing
- Experience supporting students in educational settings, ideally K-12
- Solid understanding of various communication modalities (e.g., ASL, spoken English, cued speech)
- Strong advocacy, interpersonal, and consultative skills
- Ability to design and implement Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) tailored to students' unique needs
- Familiarity with assistive listening technology and strategies to optimize access
- Commitment to fostering an inclusive, supportive classroom atmosphere
Primary Responsibilities:
- Develop and adapt instructional materials and activities for students with hearing loss
- Collaborate with classroom educators, related service providers, and families to ensure accessibility
- Perform student assessments and track progress toward goals
- Provide direct instruction and support to students both individually and in groups
- Consult on classroom accommodations, technology needs, and teaching strategies
- Participate in IEP meetings and contribute to ongoing educational planning
- Engage in professional development to stay current in best practices
