Key Qualifications:

  • Valid teaching certification as a Teacher of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing (TDHH) or eligibility to obtain one
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Deaf Education or related field
  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) or other communication modalities used by Deaf/Hard of Hearing students
  • Experience working in a K-12 setting preferred
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills
  • Ability to develop Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) tailored to each student
  • Commitment to fostering an accessible and supportive learning environment

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct instruction to students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing, adapting curriculum as needed
  • Collaborate with general education teachers, interpreters, and related service providers
  • Develop, implement, and monitor student IEP goals in accordance with state and federal regulations
  • Advocate for students’ needs and ensure equal access to educational opportunities
  • Provide consultation and training to staff and families about Deaf education and communication strategies
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress, accommodations, and services provided
