Teacher of Visually Impaired in Annapolis, MD

Working closely with school teams and families, you'll design customized lessons, adapt materials, and advocate for your students' unique learning needs.

Qualifications and Desired Experience:

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Education, Special Education, or a related field
• Valid certification as a Teacher for the Visually Impaired (TVI)
• Experience working with children or adolescents with visual impairments in educational settings
• Strong understanding of Braille, assistive technology, and orientation and mobility techniques
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills
• Ability to adapt instruction for individual student needs
• Current teaching certification/license as required

Key Responsibilities:

• Assess student abilities and create individualized education plans (IEPs) to foster independence and academic achievement
• Deliver direct instruction in Braille, large print, and use of tactile graphics or assistive technology
• Collaborate with classroom teachers to adapt materials and modify curriculum
• Monitor progress and adjust instructional strategies as needed
• Conduct specialized assessments related to vision and provide recommendations
• Communicate with families and multidisciplinary teams to ensure cohesive support
• Provide in-service training and guidance for staff on visual impairments and accommodations
