Teacher of the Visually Impaired in Apopka, FL

Empower students across K-12 to thrive as you serve as a Teacher for the Visually Impaired (TVI) for a contract role near Apopka, FL. This role welcomes travel professionals, with the district main office serving as your homebase. Shape your week with diverse work—both on-site and VOCO—with full-time hours (35 per week, Monday-Friday, 8:00am-3:30pm, 30-minute unpaid lunch). You’ll support a caseload of 15-20 students district-wide, traveling among 13 schools (typically 2 or 3 per day), providing both direct and consultative services. Work in a collaborative environment dedicated to student development while maintaining a schedule tailored to your needs.

Key Qualifications:

• Valid Professional Florida TVI License required
• Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS) Certification is essential
• Strong background in testing and student screenings
• Openness to travel among multiple sites
• Prior school-based experience is preferred, though not required
• Experience or comfort serving students K-12
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills

Essential Responsibilities:

• Deliver vision services and mobility training directly to students
• Conduct functional vision assessments and maintain documentation
• Develop and adapt instructional materials and plans for students with visual impairments
• Collaborate with educational teams, families, and administrators to best support learners
• Provide consultative services as needed—often on a periodic/monthly basis
• Adjust your weekly schedule in cooperation with district needs to accommodate effective student service and commute
• Support students’ independence, self-advocacy, and educational access
