Key Qualifications:

  • Required state certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI)
  • Experience in assessment, instruction, and adaptation of curriculum for visually impaired students
  • Strong collaboration skills to work with students, families, and multidisciplinary teams
  • Familiarity with Braille, assistive technology, and orientation and mobility concepts
  • Ability to develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs)
  • Excellent communication and organizational abilities

Role Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct instruction to students with visual impairments, adapting materials and methods to meet individual needs
  • Conduct assessments to determine functional vision and learning requirements
  • Collaborate with general education teachers and support staff on accommodations and modifications
  • Train students in the effective use of assistive technology and adaptive equipment
  • Foster independent living and academic skills for each learner
  • Maintain thorough records of student progress and participate in IEP meetings
