Your expertise as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired and Braillist will be highly valued in this collaborative environment.
Key Qualifications:
- Valid certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired or relevant teaching credential
- Proficiency in Braille, with experience transcribing educational materials and teaching Braille to students
- Familiarity with assistive technology and adaptive devices for visual impairment
- Experience developing and implementing individualized education plans (IEPs)
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills for effective collaboration with staff, students, and families
- Compassionate mindset with a dedication to fostering independence in students
Primary Responsibilities:
- Assess students’ functional vision and learning needs to inform instruction and accommodations
- Develop and deliver lessons in accordance with IEP goals, adapting materials into accessible formats including Braille
- Support classroom teachers in implementing accommodations and modifications
- Train students in the use of Braille, tactile graphics, and adaptive technology
- Maintain detailed records of student progress and participation in IEP meetings
- Serve as a resource for staff and families regarding best practices in supporting learners with visual impairments
