Make a meaningful difference in K-12 education by supporting students as a Visually Impaired Teacher on a contract basis. This rewarding role is based near Biloxi, MS, and focuses on empowering students with visual impairments to succeed both academically and personally. You’ll work closely with school staff, families, and other professionals in a supportive environment promoting growth for students and yourself.
Qualifications & Desired Experience:
- Valid certification or licensure to teach students with visual impairments (TVI)
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Special Education, Visual Impairment, or a related field
- Experience working with children and adolescents with visual impairments
- Knowledge of Braille, assistive technologies, and specialized instructional strategies
- Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills
- Ability to adapt curriculum materials to meet student needs
Responsibilities & Duties:
- Provide direct and consultative instructional services to students with visual impairments
- Assess student abilities and adapt lessons to accommodate individual needs
- Develop and implement Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) in collaboration with teachers and families
- Train students in Braille, orientation and mobility, and the use of assistive technology
- Collaborate with general education staff to create accessible materials and inclusive classroom environments
- Maintain accurate records of student progress and interventions
- Attend IEP meetings and professional development sessions as required
