Key Qualifications:
- Active state teaching certification for Visual Impairments or eligibility to obtain one
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Visual Impairment, Special Education, or related field
- Experience developing, implementing, and adapting curriculum for students with visual impairments
- Strong knowledge of Braille, assistive technology, and accessible instructional methods
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work with students, staff, and families
- Flexibility and resourcefulness in a school-based environment
Position Responsibilities:
- Assess student needs and create individualized education plans (IEPs) focused on visual impairment considerations
- Deliver direct instructional services, both one-on-one and in group settings, utilizing specialized materials and methods
- Teach Braille, orientation and mobility, self-advocacy, and adaptive technology skills
- Collaborate with general education teachers, therapists, and family members to promote inclusion and academic achievement
- Provide training and consultation for school staff regarding accommodations and best practices
- Maintain detailed documentation in compliance with all state, federal, and school policies
