Empower students with visual impairments to thrive in an inclusive learning environment by providing specialized instruction and support throughout a dynamic K-12 setting. This contract position offers the opportunity to work as an Itinerant Teacher for the Visually Impaired, delivering services to approximately ten students across both elementary and high school levels.

As an integral resource for students, families, and staff, you will help ensure that each learner’s unique needs are met in and out of the classroom. Begin making a difference as soon as possible, with the contract extending through June 11th, 2027.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Valid Maryland certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI)
  • Experience teaching visually impaired students in diverse educational settings (K-12 preferred)
  • Ability to adapt teaching strategies for students with a range of visual abilities
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills for engaging with families, staff, and related service providers
  • Organizational skills to coordinate and schedule sessions across multiple campuses

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct instruction, accessible materials, and accommodations for visually impaired students
  • Develop and implement individualized educational goals, track progress, and participate in IEP meetings
  • Equip general education staff and peers with strategies to support student success and independence
  • Advocate for appropriate technology and assistive devices, and ensure their effective use
  • Adapt curriculum and classroom layouts to best suit each student’s needs
  • Travel between schools as required by the itinerant nature of the role
