Qualifications and Desired Experience:

  • Current certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired
  • State licensure (or eligibility) in Mississippi for Visually Impaired instruction
  • Prior experience working with students with visual impairments, from pre-K through high school, is preferred
  • Solid understanding of accommodations, technology, materials, and assessments for visually impaired learners
  • Strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with staff, families, and other service providers
  • Capacity to develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs)
  • Comfortable with various instructional settings, including resource, itinerant, and inclusion environments

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver specialized instruction and support to visually impaired students, both one-on-one and in small groups
  • Assess students’ functional and academic needs, recommending adaptive technology and modifications
  • Consult with general education teachers and related service providers to ensure accessibility in the classroom and curriculum
  • Develop, update, and monitor IEPs in compliance with state and federal requirements
  • Provide training for staff and families on resources and strategies for success
  • Maintain thorough documentation of student progress and services delivered
