Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Education of the Visually Impaired or a related field
• Hold or be eligible for state certification or endorsement as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired
• Demonstrated knowledge of Braille, low vision devices, and assistive technology
• Experience adapting curriculum materials for accessibility
• Strong communication and collaboration skills to partner with general educators, families, and support staff
• Organizational skills and compassion for meeting unique student needs

Key Responsibilities:

• Assess students’ visual functioning and educational needs
• Develop and implement Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals
• Provide direct instruction in Braille, orientation and mobility, and use of assistive devices
• Modify classroom materials for accessibility and inclusion
• Consult with classroom teachers on strategies for visual impairments
• Advocate for students’ needs and facilitate classroom participation
• Maintain clear communication with families and multidisciplinary teams
• Document progress and adjust instruction as needed for best outcomes
