Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Education of the Visually Impaired or a related field
- Hold or be eligible for state certification or endorsement as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired
- Demonstrated knowledge of Braille, low vision devices, and assistive technology
- Experience adapting curriculum materials for accessibility
- Strong communication and collaboration skills to partner with general educators, families, and support staff
- Organizational skills and compassion for meeting unique student needs
Key Responsibilities:
- Assess students’ visual functioning and educational needs
- Develop and implement Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals
- Provide direct instruction in Braille, orientation and mobility, and use of assistive devices
- Modify classroom materials for accessibility and inclusion
- Consult with classroom teachers on strategies for visual impairments
- Advocate for students’ needs and facilitate classroom participation
- Maintain clear communication with families and multidisciplinary teams
- Document progress and adjust instruction as needed for best outcomes
