Desired Qualifications:
- Valid teaching certification in Visual Impairment or eligibility for appropriate state credentials
- Experience working with K-12 students who are visually impaired
- Proficiency in Braille, assistive technology, and adaptive materials
- Strong communication skills to consult with teachers, families, and support staff
- Ability to develop and implement IEPs tailored to individual student needs
- Compassionate, patient, and creative approach to instruction
Key Responsibilities:
- Assess students’ functional vision and learning needs, then develop individualized instructional plans
- Provide direct instruction in Braille literacy, orientation and mobility, and the use of specialized equipment
- Collaborate with general and special education staff to adapt curriculum materials and classroom environments
- Advocate for accessibility, accommodations, and inclusion for visually impaired students
- Monitor and document progress, maintaining compliance with all educational regulations and standards
- Communicate regularly with families to support student growth and independence
