As a Teacher for the Visually Impaired, you'll be instrumental in helping students access curriculum, develop essential skills, and thrive both academically and socially.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Valid teaching certification in Visual Impairment or eligibility for appropriate state credentials
  • Experience working with K-12 students who are visually impaired
  • Proficiency in Braille, assistive technology, and adaptive materials
  • Strong communication skills to consult with teachers, families, and support staff
  • Ability to develop and implement IEPs tailored to individual student needs
  • Compassionate, patient, and creative approach to instruction

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assess students’ functional vision and learning needs, then develop individualized instructional plans
  • Provide direct instruction in Braille literacy, orientation and mobility, and the use of specialized equipment
  • Collaborate with general and special education staff to adapt curriculum materials and classroom environments
  • Advocate for accessibility, accommodations, and inclusion for visually impaired students
  • Monitor and document progress, maintaining compliance with all educational regulations and standards
  • Communicate regularly with families to support student growth and independence
