Make an impact in the Chattanooga area by supporting students as a Teacher for the Visually Impaired (TVI) during the upcoming academic year. This contract position offers the unique opportunity to work with K-12+ learners across multiple school sites, providing specialized instruction and advocacy for students with a variety of visual impairments, including those with additional disabilities in both general and special education settings.
Requirements for Success:
- Valid and active Department of Education certification for teaching visually impaired students
- Proficiency in Braille and familiarity with Assistive Technology; experience with Federal Quota program tools is a plus
- Experience creating, monitoring, and updating IEPs, with familiarity using TN Pulse or similar platforms
- Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate in IEP meetings
- Current or ability to obtain required fingerprinting and meet all timely credentialing requirements
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver direct instruction and consultation services to K-12+ students with visual impairments across assigned schools
- Support students utilizing Chromebooks and a range of assistive technologies
- Develop accessible instructional materials and implement accommodations in collaboration with classroom teachers
- Attend and participate actively in IEP meetings to ensure student needs are met
- Collaborate with school staff and families to share strategies, monitor progress, and foster student independence
- Travel between schools in a geographically assigned area to balance caseload and minimize commute time
This is a full-time, 35-hour per week position with the potential to consider part-time arrangements. The contract runs from August 5, 2026, through May 19, 2027.
