This role is ideal for professionals who thrive on empowering visually impaired students to reach their academic and personal goals. You’ll work closely with educators, families, and specialized staff to adapt curriculum, develop Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), and implement instructional strategies that foster independence and inclusion.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Education of the Visually Impaired or closely related field
  • Valid state teaching certification for Visual Impairment (or eligibility)
  • Previous experience working with children or adolescents with visual impairments in educational settings
  • Strong understanding of Braille, assistive technology, and orientation and mobility techniques
  • Exceptional communication, collaboration, and organizational skills
  • Ability to assess student needs and tailor instruction accordingly

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct instruction to visually impaired students in individual and group settings
  • Adapt curriculum and materials to meet accessibility standards
  • Collaborate with general education staff, itinerant specialists, and families
  • Monitor student progress, conduct assessments, and update IEPs as needed
  • Recommend and implement use of assistive technology and classroom accommodations
  • Advocate for the needs of visually impaired students within the school community
