Step into a vital role supporting students with visual impairments as a full-time Teacher of the Visually Impaired. This contract opportunity, beginning August 3, 2026, and running through May 28, 2027, is ideal for professionals seeking impactful work within the K-12 setting and who enjoy collaborating across multiple campuses. The district office serves as your home base, with a flexible travel schedule developed around your needs and commute preferences.
You’ll deliver both direct and consultative services to a manageable caseload of 15–20 students—traveling between 13 different schools (visiting 2–3 each day). In addition to regular instruction, some services require monthly consultation and occasional student screenings, making a background in educational testing essential.
Qualifications:
- Active Florida Professional Teacher of the Visually Impaired License
- Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS) Certification
- Preferably experience in school-based roles (district may consider strong candidates without)
- Solid background in student testing and assessment
- Willingness to travel locally between multiple schools (travel professionals encouraged)
Responsibilities:
- Provide direct instruction and consultative services for K–12 students
- Conduct and interpret visual impairment screenings/assessments
- Develop individualized strategies and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams
- Travel between assigned campuses, adjusting to a thoughtfully coordinated schedule
- Maintain documentation, submit timesheets accurately, and participate in district onboarding and credentialing
