As a contract teacher serving students with visual impairments, you’ll play a critical role in shaping accessible learning environments, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, and fostering independence for your students.

Key Qualifications:

  • Valid state certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI)
  • Experience working with students who are blind or have low vision in school settings
  • Strong knowledge of Braille, assistive technology, and adaptive curriculum strategies
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to build positive relationships with students, families, and staff
  • Ability to assess, plan, and modify instruction based on individual student needs
  • Collaborative mindset and a passion for advancing inclusive education

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Deliver direct and consultative instructional support to students with visual impairments across grade levels
  • Adapt and modify curriculum materials using accessible formats (such as Braille, large print, and audio)
  • Assess students’ functional vision and learning needs to design individualized educational programs (IEPs)
  • Provide training and support in assistive devices and technology for students and staff
  • Partner with classroom teachers, therapists, and families to ensure educational access
  • Maintain accurate records and regular communication regarding student progress
  • Participate in IEP meetings, professional development, and ongoing team collaboration
