As a Teacher for the Visually Impaired, you’ll collaborate with educators, families, and support staff to provide essential services and create accessible learning environments. Key Qualifications:

  • Valid state certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) or eligibility to obtain
  • Experience working with students who are blind or visually impaired in an educational setting
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with students, families, and multidisciplinary teams
  • Familiarity with assistive technology, braille instruction, and adaptive strategies
  • Compassion, patience, and creativity in adapting curriculum and materials
  • Willingness to travel within the assigned school district as needed

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with visual impairments
  • Provide direct instruction in braille, orientation and mobility, and specialized technology
  • Consult with teachers and staff to adapt classroom materials and foster inclusive instructional practices
  • Assess student strengths and areas of need, monitoring progress and adjusting interventions
  • Participate in evaluations, meetings, and collaborative planning sessions
  • Serve as a resource for families, offering support and information to ensure student success
