Qualifications and Experience:
- Valid certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI)
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Special Education, Visual Impairment, or related field
- Experience working with children or adolescents who are visually impaired in an educational setting
- Proficient in developing and implementing individualized education plans (IEPs)
- Strong communication and collaboration skills with staff, parents, and service providers
- Knowledge of Braille, assistive technology, and orientation and mobility strategies (preferred)
- Current state licensure or willingness to obtain required credentials
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and implement tailored instructional strategies for students with visual impairments
- Assess student needs and progress, providing reports and recommendations to educational teams
- Collaborate with classroom teachers, therapists, and families to modify curriculum and ensure accessibility
- Introduce students to adaptive tools and technology for enhanced independence
- Provide direct and consultative services to facilitate student participation across settings
- Support students’ social, emotional, and academic development through individualized and group instruction
