Qualifications and Experience:
- State certification as a Teacher for the Visually Impaired or eligibility to obtain certification
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Special Education or a related field
- Experience working with students who are blind or have low vision, preferably in a school setting
- Strong understanding of Braille, assistive technology, and adaptive devices
- Exceptional communication and collaboration skills with staff, students, and families
Responsibilities:
- Provide direct instruction to students with visual impairments, creating and implementing individualized education plans (IEPs)
- Participate in multi-disciplinary team meetings and contribute to evaluation and goal-setting for each student
- Adapt curriculum materials and classroom environments to ensure accessibility and inclusion
- Teach students skills such as orientation and mobility, use of assistive technology, and independent living techniques
- Consult regularly with general education staff and provide training or support as needed
- Maintain accurate documentation of student progress and required reports per district and state guidelines
